Offshore Medicals

General Offshore / OGUK Medical

Offshore medicals are required by anyone working offshore in the UK or Norwegian waters, such as in the oil and gas industry, on oilrigs, or offshore windfarms.

Offshore workers are required to complete a medical assessment every 2 years and may also require to undertake a fit to train or a chester step test. In addition to a regular offshore medical, if you are travelling by helicopter to an offshore area you are required to formally have your shoulders measured.

A person’s shoulder measurements determine where they can sit on a helicopter flight. Any person with a shoulder measurement larger than 55.9cm will be classified as XBR, which may have restrictions on certain flights. It is recommended that if you fall within this category, that you get measured at regular intervals.
